Our Story
A head for business and a heart for the community best describes those behind the formation of Yayasan Teratai. A group of friends and colleagues who have done well in life decided to give something back to the community in the Kinta Valley.
On the initiative of Dr Nawawi bin Mat Awin, Choe Kok Choon and Dato Yap Lim Sen, Yayasan Teratai was formed in 2001.
The values that drive what we do is based on our passion to serve the community in the Kinta Valley. We believe that compassion matters and taking action to match that compassion matters more, hence Yayasan Teratai.
Although Dr Nawawi and Mr Choe have since passed on, the spirit of ‘giving back’ is carried on by their friends.
We make a life by what we give pretty much sums up the thinking behind the Foundation’s activities.

Management
The Planning Committee acts on behalf of the Board of Trustees in guiding and supervising the day-to-day operations and management of the Foundation.
Our Mission
There are many ways the Foundation can contribute. Of the many needs of the community, the Trustees decided the Foundation would focus on Education and Health – with special attention to Aged Care.
In a way we attend to both ends of life’s spectrum as it were. Those preparing for and setting out in life and those in their Golden Years.
